Major pentatonic, minor pentatonic and blues scales
Two-octave major and minor arpeggios
Triads in multiple inversions
Chord voicing across the top three strings

Technical Exercises
Group A – Scales
At ♩ = 80 bpm, students prepare two-octave scales in two positions.
Starting notes:
E-string: F, G and A
A-string: B, C and D
Required scales:
Major
Natural Minor
Harmonic Minor
Minor Pentatonic
Major Pentatonic
Blues
Students prepare the exercises in both positions, giving them broader fretboard coverage and greater technical flexibility.
Group B – Arpeggios
At ♩ = 80 bpm, students prepare two-octave:
Major arpeggios
Minor arpeggios
Using the same two position groups:
E-string roots: F, G and A
A-string roots: B, C and D
Group C – Chords
Students prepare major and minor triads in three inversions on the top three strings, performed as a continuous sequence in the key of C.
This develops movable chord voicings, fretboard knowledge and the ability to connect chord shapes smoothly rather than relying only on open-position forms.
Group D – Acoustic Riff
Students perform an eight-bar acoustic riff with a backing track at ♩ = 85 bpm.
The riff introduced in the opening bars is subsequently transposed to different root notes. The exercise develops rhythmic consistency, fretboard awareness and the ability to adapt a repeated musical figure to different harmonic positions.
